Southampton ended their dismal 12-game Premier League losing streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday, thanks to goals from Nigerian duo Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu.
Desperate for a turnaround, the Saints struck first in the 21st minute when Aribo calmly finished off a slick team move. Their lead, however, was short-lived as Ipswich’s Liam Delap pounced on a defensive lapse to equalize in the 31st minute.
With time running out, Southampton ramped up the pressure, and their persistence paid off in the 88th minute. Onuachu rose highest to meet a precise cross, powering home the decisive header to seal the long-awaited victory.
The win lifts Southampton off the bottom of the table and injects fresh hope into their campaign. Manager Russell Martin will take relief in seeing his team finally snap their losing run, with Aribo and Onuachu delivering when it mattered most.
