Third-Party Insurance: Kogi CP Cracks Down on Defaulters, Orders Total Compliance

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has issued a firm directive, reinforcing the stance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, on the nationwide enforcement of mandatory third-party vehicle insurance.

In a statement released on the 1st of February, 2025, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, urged officers of the Command to uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to established procedures in carrying out the enforcement.

Quoting his Principal, the Police Spokesperson stated, “The Commissioner of Police emphasized that this enforcement aims to enhance road safety and ensure that all vehicle owners comply with insurance regulations designed to protect both motorists and other road users.”

He further relayed the Commissioner’s appeal to Kogi State residents, encouraging cooperation with police officers during the enforcement exercise.

“He also urged the people of Kogi State to cooperate with Police officers carrying out enforcement duties, noting that failure to comply will attract legal consequences.”

To prevent any disruptions, the Commissioner advised all vehicle owners and road users to ensure they possess valid third-party insurance.

“The Commissioner further advised all vehicle owners and road users in the state to obtain valid Third-Party Insurance to avoid any inconveniences during enforcement.”

In reinforcing the directive, he charged all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers with the responsibility of executing this mandate diligently.

“He directed all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure full implementation of this directive while maintaining a high level of professionalism and adherence to standard procedures.”

The enforcement of mandatory third-party insurance for all vehicles nationwide officially took effect on the 1st of February 2025.
