Armed Forces Remembrance: Fubara Orders Immediate Employment for Fallen Soldiers’ Children

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered that children of fallen servicemen in the state be employed immediately, describing the move as part of the government’s obligation to support families left behind by officers who died in active service.

Fubara gave the directive on Thursday, January 15, during the Armed Forces Remembrance ceremony at Government House in Port Harcourt, organised as part of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

He said the decision reflects Rivers State’s commitment to backing the Armed Forces and other security agencies, not only through operational support but also by providing tangible assistance to dependants of personnel who paid the ultimate price.

The governor instructed the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Benibo Anabraba, to ensure the employment promise is implemented without delay.

“I want to mention here that in line with our support, the secretary to the state government has been given a marching order to ensure that the employment promised by the State Government for the children of our veterans would be immediately attended to.

“This is part of our way of showing socio-economic support to the families,” Fubara stated.

Fubara said Rivers would continue to collaborate with military formations in the state by offering logistics and welfare support to boost their effectiveness.

He also acknowledged troops deployed across different theatres of operation, particularly those fighting Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in the North-East, and those engaged against banditry and kidnapping in the North-West and North-Central regions.

The governor referenced security operations in the South-East and South-South, including efforts to tackle pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft and other threats on land and in coastal areas.

He paid tribute to soldiers who died in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and various international peacekeeping missions, as well as those lost in recent counter-insurgency campaigns.

Fubara also commended President Bola Tinubu for steps aimed at strengthening the military, including improved welfare and modern equipment, as well as broader efforts to address internal security challenges.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Rivers State, Kuu Aminkipo Promise, thanked the state government for its ongoing support, noting the launch of the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund and the governor’s ₦100m donation.

He said the support has reassured veterans, widows and dependants of fallen heroes.
