The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has restated his determination to place the welfare of officers and soldiers at the forefront of his leadership, describing their well-being as critical to the success of military operations.
Speaking at the close of a three-day operational tour of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, General Oluyede stressed that the condition of troops and their families remains a top priority.
“I am particularly concerned about the welfare of my soldiers. I came here to see firsthand the challenges they face, and I will do everything within available resources, with the backing of the Federal Government, to make life better for them,” the Army Chief assured.
During the visit, General Oluyede commissioned several new and renovated facilities, including a new 6 Division Administration Building, a filling station, the Headquarters Extension, Python Harmony House, a Guard Room, multiple housing projects for corporals, and upgraded facilities at Elele Barracks.
He said the projects were designed not only to boost morale but also to strengthen operational readiness in the Niger Delta.

General Oluyede’s remarks come at a time when the military continues to confront multiple security challenges across the country.
He insisted that maintaining high morale among troops would remain central to the Army’s mission.
