Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, his family and 22 other abducted civilians during separate operations.
The operations were carried out in the early hours of July 28, 2026, following a series of distress calls reporting terrorist attacks in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Aliyu Danja, on Wednesday, terrorists invaded the residence of the Federal Polytechnic rector on Tsohon-Tasha Street, where they killed his private security guard and injured another resident before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf and members of his family.
The military said troops responded swiftly to the distress call and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
The superior firepower of the troops forced the terrorists to flee the scene, abandoning their victims. Dr. Yusuf and his family were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops on night patrol responded to another distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where terrorists were attempting to abduct residents.
The military said troops simultaneously confronted another group of terrorists in the same community who had attempted to kidnap a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria.
The terrorists fled under sustained military pressure, abandoning the businessman and 21 other civilians they had abducted from neighbouring houses.

All 22 victims were rescued safely.
In a related development, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, identified as Falalu Yusuf, who is believed to have collaborated with the attackers.
The suspect has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the vigilance, courage and professionalism displayed by the troops during the operations, describing the successes as a reflection of the military’s sustained offensive against terrorist groups operating in the North-West.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence on the activities of criminal elements.
