The Nigerian Army has redeployed 15 senior officers to new command and strategic positions in a leadership shake-up approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu.
The changes were announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col Appolonia Anele.
Maj Gen I.A. Ajose moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to become Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, replacing Maj Gen A.E. Abubakar.
Abubakar moves to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research, alongside Maj Gen A.M. Alechenu, who leaves the Defence Headquarters Garrison for the centre.
Maj Gen R.T. Utsaha moves from the Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to command the Defence Headquarters Garrison.
Maj Gen A.M. Umar becomes Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, moving from the Department of Civil-Military Affairs, while Maj Gen U.M. Alkali leaves the college to head the department.
Maj Gen G.S. Muhammed moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to become Director-General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, while Maj Gen J.E. Osifo becomes Chairman of the Military Pension Board.

Maj Gen I.E. Ekpenyong moves to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Logistics as Director of Engineering Services.
At the operational level, Brig Gen A.A. Bello moves from 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3, Operation Delta Safe, to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Operations.
Brig Gen M.S. Adamu takes command of the newly established 8 Brigade after leaving the Nigerian Army Women Command, while Brig Gen M.S. Sule moves from Operation Enduring Peace to command 27 Task Force Brigade.
Brig Gen I. Sule becomes Commander of 6 Division Garrison after leaving the Directorate of Recruitment Management, while Brig Gen E. Azenda moves from the Land Forces Simulation Centre to command 2 Division Garrison.
The former 2 Division Garrison commander, Brig Gen A.S. Bugaje, moves to the Land Forces Simulation Centre as Director of Administration.
The Army said the postings were aimed at deploying experienced officers to critical operational and strategic positions.
Shaibu charged the officers to uphold professionalism, provide effective leadership and remain focused on the Army’s constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
