The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, less than 24 hours after she was abducted from her residence in the Federal Capital Territory.
The victim was rescued following a coordinated operation by troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison, who launched an immediate pursuit of the kidnappers after the abduction on September 1, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Nigerian Army, troops acting on credible intelligence tracked the kidnappers through suspected escape routes around the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis.
The troops’ rapid response reportedly overwhelmed the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the victim and flee into nearby bushes.
Mrs Adonkie was subsequently found and rescued at Angwan Sabo Village, while troops intensified their pursuit of the fleeing suspects along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis.
The operation continued into September 2, when troops intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
The Army said the troops also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the suspects.
Recovered items include, One AK-47 rifle, One AK-47 magazine, 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition
The latest arrests are expected to support ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate who may have participated in the abduction.

The successful rescue comes as security agencies intensify operations against kidnapping and other forms of criminality around the Federal Capital Territory and its surrounding communities.
The Nigerian Army commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, stressing that timely information from members of the public remains critical to the success of security operations.
The Army also reassured residents of the FCT and adjoining areas of its commitment to protecting lives and property, saying it would continue to work with other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks.
The latest operation underscores the importance of coordinated intelligence-driven operations in responding to kidnappings and disrupting criminal groups before they can move their victims far from the point of abduction.
The Nigerian Army said it remains resolute in sustaining joint and aggressive operations aimed at neutralising threats, rescuing victims and strengthening security across the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
