Army Tackling Evolving Security Threats, Recording Major Successes — COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has said the Nigerian Army continues to record significant operational successes despite the growing and evolving security challenges confronting the country.

Shaibu made the remarks on Monday during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to the Army Chief, Nigeria’s security landscape has become increasingly complex, with threats ranging from insurgency and terrorism to banditry, secessionist agitation and emerging transnational crimes.

“Today, the Nigerian Army faces evolving security threats that have risen from insurgency, terrorism, secessionist agitation, banditry, and emergent transnational crimes.

Despite these challenges, our troops have continued to achieve significant operational successes,” he said.

The COAS commended officers and soldiers for their resilience, professionalism and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens across various theatres of operation.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening national security through improved operational readiness, enhanced training, and collaboration with other security agencies.

Shaibu also assured Nigerians that the Army would remain steadfast in its constitutional responsibility of defending the country’s sovereignty while adapting to emerging security threats.

The Nigerian Army Day Celebration is an annual event commemorating the establishment of the Nigerian Army and honouring the courage, dedication and sacrifices of serving and fallen military personnel.
