Army Unveils New COAS Portrait, Cautions Against Old Images

The Nigerian Army has unveiled the official portrait of the 25th Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, with a directive to the media and public to discontinue the use of outdated photographs.

In a statement released on Tuesday via its official communication channels, the Army emphasised that the move was necessary to maintain uniformity and accuracy in publications and official records.

“You are kindly requested to update your media archives accordingly and refrain from using previous photographs, particularly those depicting the Chief of Army Staff with the rank of Major General,” the statement read.

The Army also clarified that an earlier portrait previously circulated through its platforms should no longer be used, urging all media outlets to rely solely on the newly approved image for consistency in representation.

Highlighting the importance of factual reporting, the statement commended journalists for their professionalism and their continued role in promoting national security through responsible reportage.

“The Nigerian Army sincerely appreciates your professionalism, commitment, and invaluable contributions to national security through factual and responsible reporting of our activities,” it added.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who assumed office earlier this year, has since led several strategic military operations across the country.

The release of his official portrait, according to the Army, aligns with efforts to project a standard and unified image of Nigeria’s top military leadership.
