Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that negotiations over a new contract are not a source of concern, despite his current deal running until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Arteta addressed his future on Friday while speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League encounter with Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
Asked whether he would extend his stay at the club, the Spaniard said, “I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about.”
Arteta was also asked if his next contract could be agreed during an international break, as happened with his previous renewal two years ago.
“I don’t know if the timing will be the same or different, I think we both have the same ambition and the same will, so whenever we have time we’ll get that resolved,” he said in a pre-match conference on the club website on Friday.

Arteta has been in charge of Arsenal since December 2019, winning the FA Cup in 2020 and leading the club to three successive Premier League runners-up finishes from 2022/23 to 2024/25.
He also discussed Arsenal’s strategy for sustaining its competitiveness through youth development and recruitment, stressing the importance of creating a pathway from the academy while bringing in talent from Nigeria and abroad.
“It’s us as a club, we know we want to constantly maintain this level and have the pathway already in-house – which is obviously the best way to bring players from the academy or youth teams to us,” Arteta said.
“We need to be one of the best in the world at recruiting in the country and abroad to maintain that level.”
The comments came as Arsenal prepared for their meeting with Brighton, their final fixture before the extended international break.
