The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that it will hold a nationwide rally on Tuesday, the 26th of August 2025, as part of renewed pressure on the Federal Government.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, the 25th of August, at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, the union’s Zonal Coordinator, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, explained that the decision followed years of unresolved issues between lecturers and the government.
He described the rallies as ASUU’s first major response to what he called persistent government neglect.
Egbedokun stressed that the demonstrations serve as a warning of bigger actions to come if the union’s demands remain unattended.

The rallies are expected to take place simultaneously across public universities, with teaching and other academic engagements suspended for the day.
Egbedokun further revealed that the National Executive Council (NEC) has given the Federal Government until its August 28 meeting to act, after which the union will decide on further steps.
“For over two years, we have kept faith with dialogue and refrained from strikes, but our patience has reached its limit. If the government continues to play games with the future of our universities, then it must bear the consequences of the storm that will follow,” he warned.
