Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has arrived in Osogbo, Osun State, alongside a team of political associates to campaign for the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate, Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam, ahead of Saturday’s election.
Atiku announced his arrival in a post on X on Monday, saying his delegation was in the state for the ADC’s final campaign rally and to drum up support for Salaam.
He said, “I have arrived in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, alongside a delegation of political associates, to stand with our governorship candidate, Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam (Iwaloye), and our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), at the grand finale of our campaign ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.”
The former Vice President said the visit was also aimed at making a final appeal to Osun voters to back the ADC candidate at the polls.

“We are here to rally support for our candidate and make a final appeal to the people of Osun State to entrust the ADC with the responsibility of delivering purposeful leadership, good governance and a better future for all,” he added.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party seeking another term.
He is facing competition from the All Progressives Congress candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and the ADC’s Salaam, among other contenders.
With the election approaching, political activities have intensified across the state as the leading candidates make their final campaign efforts.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it is prepared for the election, while security agencies have also increased preparations aimed at ensuring a peaceful conduct of the poll.
