Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent deadly attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
In a statement shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Atiku expressed outrage over the incident, which reportedly claimed the lives of scores of residents and left several others injured.
“I am outraged by the barbaric attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which claimed the lives of scores of innocent Nigerians and left many others injured,” he stated.
The former Vice President, who has consistently spoken on national security concerns, said the attack further underscores what he described as the “near-total collapse” of security in the country.
“That this heinous assault occurred on Sunday night, March 29, 2026, is yet another damning indictment of the near-total collapse of security in our country,” he said.
Atiku added that the situation reflects a dangerous trend of lawlessness, where the value of human life appears increasingly diminished.
He lamented that despite repeated government assurances and security directives, insecurity continues to define daily life for many Nigerians.
“What we are witnessing is not merely a security lapse, but a tragic descent into lawlessness where human lives are treated as expendable,” he added.

Calling for stronger political will, Atiku urged authorities to move beyond verbal condemnation and take decisive action to address the security crisis.
“The anger across the land must now compel urgent, decisive political will to confront and crush this menace,” he said, stressing that the continued killings of innocent citizens must not become normalised.
He concluded by extending condolences to the victims’ families, describing the incident as a painful tragedy for the nation.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims in this dark and painful moment,” he said.
The attack has continued to draw national attention, with renewed calls for improved security operations in Plateau State and other parts of the country experiencing recurring violence.
