Atlético Madrid have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Italian side Atalanta in a deal worth €40 million, marking one of the biggest moves involving a Super Eagles player this window.
The agreement comprises a €35 million fixed fee with an additional €5 million in performance-related add-ons, following Lookman’s decision to choose Atlético Madrid over interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe late on Tuesday night.
Sources close to the deal confirmed that all negotiations between the clubs have been concluded, with Lookman agreeing to a long-term contract with the La Liga outfit. Atlético Madrid are now making arrangements for the player’s travel and medical examinations, expected to take place shortly.

Lookman, who has been one of Atalanta’s standout performers, earned widespread praise for his pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability, making him a key target for Diego Simeone’s side as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international is expected to add speed, versatility, and cutting edge to Atlético’s frontline, while also becoming one of the most high-profile Nigerian players currently plying his trade in Spain.
An official announcement is anticipated once medicals are completed, bringing an end to Lookman’s spell in Serie A and opening a new chapter in La Liga with Atlético Madrid.
