Baba Ijesha Joins Lagos Sex Offenders Register, Govt Clarifies Prison Release

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that comedian Baba Ijesha, real name Olanrewaju James, has been added to the state’s Sex Offenders Register.

The Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said his name has been formally entered into the database, noting:

“In line with Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law 2021, his name has been duly entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register. This measure supports ongoing efforts to protect minors, strengthen accountability and ensure that accurate information is available to the public.”

Lagos State Attorney-General Lawal Pedro dismissed social media claims that Baba Ijesha had been “cleared” of all charges, calling them false and misleading.

While some earlier convictions were overturned, the Court of Appeal upheld his 2021 sexual assault conviction.

Pedro clarified that Baba Ijesha’s release from prison was due to completion of his sentence, not acquittal.

Further attempts to challenge the conviction, including a motion for a fresh appeal in October 2025, were dismissed.

The Attorney-General also warned against spreading misinformation, noting potential criminal liability for false reporting.

Comedienne Princess (Damilola Adekoya), whose foster daughter was the complainant, welcomed Baba Ijesha’s inclusion on the sex offenders register, calling it a crucial step in protecting children.
