Bala Mohammed Dismisses Jonathan VP Rumours, Sticks To Senate

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has refuted reports linking him to a proposed 2027 presidential ticket involving former President Goodluck Jonathan and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The speculation emerged after claims circulated on social media suggesting that Mohammed was being considered as Jonathan’s running mate following the former president’s emergence as the presidential candidate of a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki.

Jonathan was endorsed as the faction’s presidential flag bearer during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

Although the former president was absent from the event, his certificate of return was accepted on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker Fred Agbedi.

The rumours gained momentum after Nuhu Sada, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), posted on X that reports indicated Mohammed could be paired with Jonathan ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In response, the Bauchi governor dismissed the claims in a statement shared through his verified X account on Sunday, insisting that he was not involved in any such arrangement.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” Mohammed wrote.

He further urged members of the public not to give credence to reports suggesting otherwise.

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he stated.

Mohammed recently defected from the PDP to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) amid the prolonged leadership crisis and internal disagreements within the opposition party.

His latest statement is seen as an effort to put an end to speculation surrounding his political future while reaffirming his intention to contest for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.
