Bandits Kill Seven, Abduct Catholic Priest, 10 Others In Kaduna

At least seven people have been killed and a Catholic priest, alongside 10 others, abducted following a bandit attack on Karku (Ningi) village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to a post by security analyst, Zagagola Makama, on Sunday, the attack occurred on Saturday, when armed bandits stormed the community, shooting sporadically and targeting homes.

Among those abducted was the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye.

The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, on Sunday.

Shanet expressed deep sorrow over the development, noting that the invasion initially left three people dead, aside from those taken away by the attackers.

He said, “With profound sadness, we announce the kidnapping of our priest, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku,” the statement read. “Fr. Nathaniel was kidnapped alongside ten other people at about 3:20 a.m. at his residence.”

Further details revealed that the death toll later rose to seven, including two security personnel.

Three members of a local vigilante group were also reported missing following the attack.

Four other residents sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
