Barrister Frank Tietie has been honoured with the 2025 FCT Human Rights Advocate of the Year Award in recognition of his sustained commitment to justice, the rule of law, and the defence of fundamental human rights within the Federal Capital Territory.
The award was presented by the Karu Gbagyi Development Association, representing the Indigenous People of the FCT, in acknowledgment of Barr. Tietie’s long-standing advocacy and campaigns for the rights, inclusion, and welfare of the Gbagyi people.
In a statement following the honour, Barr. Tietie expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Sumner Shagari Sambo, President of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association, for recognising his decades-long efforts. He noted that his engagement with the Gbagyi community dates back to 2004, when he began advocating for their rights while serving as a secondary school teacher at Government Secondary School (GSS), Nyanya Gbagyi, in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to him, the recognition affirms the value of consistency and principled advocacy in advancing social justice and protecting vulnerable communities.
