The Bauchi State Police Command has issued a strong public warning following a series of dangerous incidents involving individuals scaling telecommunications masts in the state, reportedly in connection with political demands and protest gestures.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, the command revealed that three individuals have been rescued in recent weeks after attempting to commit suicide by climbing masts at various locations across Bauchi metropolis.
The first incident occurred on June 16, 2025, when 22-year-old Adamu Salisu, popularly known as “Sarkin Malaman Samarin Muda Lawal Market,” climbed a network mast near Kofar Dumi Primary School. He vowed not to descend until Alhaji Bala Wunti returned his call and declared his interest in contesting the gubernatorial election.
On June 18, another man, 35-year-old Usman Nanu of the Kofar Dumi area, scaled the same mast to demand that Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir CON declare for the 2027 presidential election.
The most recent incident took place on June 29, when 37-year-old Alkassim Saidu Yakubu climbed an MTN mast in Unguwan Magaji Inkil. He reportedly refused to come down unless the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance publicly announced his gubernatorial ambition for 2027.
SP Wakil confirmed that police detectives were promptly deployed in all three cases and successfully persuaded the individuals to come down. They were then apprehended and are facing legal consequences for attempting suicide.

“The individuals have confessed and expressed remorse for their actions,” Wakil said. “They will undergo profiling and be charged accordingly.”
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu expressed serious concern over the growing and hazardous trend, particularly among young people. He described the acts as reckless and a threat to public safety, warning that all offenders would face the full weight of the law.
He further urged parents, community leaders, and public figures to discourage youths from engaging in such extreme actions or inciting political unrest.
“The peace of Bauchi State remains a priority,” the Commissioner stressed. “Anyone found inciting, encouraging, or participating in acts capable of disrupting public order will be apprehended and prosecuted.”
