The Bauchi State Government has announced the creation of a Cholera steering and technical committee to lead emergency efforts and design lasting measures against the current outbreak, which has resulted in several deaths.
During the inauguration in Bauchi, Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau stressed that cholera remains a major health risk requiring swift and coordinated action.
He explained that the committee’s role would focus on stronger surveillance, early case detection, and rapid response to protect residents.
“Cholera outbreaks can be prevented if we act on time, work together, and improve water, sanitation, and hygiene,” Jatau emphasized.

According to him, members were carefully selected based on their knowledge and capacity to deliver. He called for commitment from the team and pledged the government’s backing, while also acknowledging the contribution of health partners.
Chairing the technical committee, Commissioner for Health Dr. Sani Dambam affirmed that the members would operate collaboratively to meet the objectives set before them.
