The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday afternoon after collapsing inside the Government House in Yenagoa, the state capital.
According to multiple sources, the incident happened suddenly, and his condition was described as “serious,” although the cause of the collapse remains unclear.
Reports indicate that Ewhrudjakpo was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he is receiving urgent medical attention.
When contacted to confirm the development, the Deputy Governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi, said, “Yes,” and immediately ended the call, according to The Punch.
He declined to provide further details.

The Deputy Governor’s collapse has raised public concern, especially given his recent low political profile.
Ewhrudjakpo was notably absent in October when Governor Douye Diri announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While Diri’s defection was accompanied by members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Ewhrudjakpo’s stance on the move was not mentioned, fueling speculation about his current political and personal situation.
As of press time, neither the Bayelsa State Government nor medical officials at the Federal Medical Centre had issued a formal statement regarding Ewhrudjakpo’s condition.
