Bayelsa Police Parade FUO Student, Others Over Viral Assault on Nancy Wilfred

The Bayelsa State Police Command has paraded three suspects, including a 20-year-old student of the Federal University, Otuoke, identified as Blessing Daniel, popularly called Kadi, for their involvement in the assault and stripping of Miss Nancy Wilfred in a viral video that drew public outrage.

Kadi, who admitted her role during the parade in Yenagoa on Thursday, said alcohol influenced her actions and expressed regret over the incident.

Investigations revealed that the suspects lured Nancy to their apartment under false pretenses, attacked her, stripped her naked, and recorded the act before sharing it online.

The assault, according to police, was linked to allegations that Nancy had accused Kadi of using charms, locally called Kayamata, to attract men.

“She lied against me, saying I used charms. When I confronted her and she didn’t answer, I slapped her, and she pushed me back. That was how it all started,” Kadi said, noting that the attack escalated beyond what she and her accomplices had planned.

The suspect disclosed that four people were initially involved in the incident but one of them, identified as Favour, who allegedly instigated the attack, is currently on the run.

Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu, confirmed that the arrested suspects are facing charges ranging from conspiracy, indecent assault, grievous harm, attempted kidnapping, cyberbullying, to cyberstalking.

“This matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Out of the four suspects, three are in custody, and one is at large. We are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation and prosecution to serve as a deterrent,” the CP said.

He praised Governor Douye Diri, First Lady Mrs. Gloria Diri, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), and gender rights advocates for their support in combating gender-based violence in the state.

The police assured that justice would be served and reaffirmed their commitment to arresting the remaining suspect.
