Beyond Politics: How Ozonna Soludo Built His Own Identity Through Music and Social Media

While many children of Nigerian politicians choose to stay away from public attention, Ozonna Soludo, the eldest son of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, has taken a different route, building a distinct identity as a musician, entrepreneur and social media personality.

Popularly known as “Baby Oku” among his followers, Ozonna has become a familiar face online through his shirtless dance videos, unconventional fashion sense, music career and outspoken personality. With more than 100,000 followers on Instagram, he regularly shares dance clips, music snippets and lifestyle content that often generate widespread reactions.

He recently returned to the spotlight after posting a video of himself dancing to a trending protest song critical of President Bola Tinubu’s administration while wearing a campaign-branded shirt associated with his father.

In the video, Ozonna danced to lyrics that criticised the Federal Government and referenced Governor Soludo.

“Tinubu, shame onto you, all power belongs to Jesus,” the song declared.

The clip quickly went viral, attracting mixed reactions from Nigerians across social media.

Although many first became aware of him because of his father’s political position, Ozonna has consistently maintained that he wants to be recognised for his own career rather than his family background.

In 2023, he revived his music career with the release of his single, Take It Slow, which renewed public interest in his artistic journey.

Beyond music, Ozonna has established himself as an entrepreneur through his handcrafted bead and jewellery business, where he designs necklaces and accessories frequently showcased on his social media platforms.

His pages feature energetic dance performances, humorous content and fashion-forward posts that resonate with younger audiences.

His signature style—often appearing shirtless, experimenting with distinctive hairstyles and embracing bold fashion choices—has made him one of Nigeria’s most recognisable children of politicians on social media.

Ozonna has also been vocal in defending his lifestyle against online criticism.

In a video that circulated widely in 2025, he responded to critics who questioned his appearance and social media content.

“I like myself, I like what I like. I am not here to suit your ego. I am not here to live according to your standard,” he said.

“The next time you write a paragraph or an essay about my life, maybe think about your life. I actually accept myself. I love and accept me. I put out what I like on my social media. I am not going to stop liking what I like.”

In July 2025, Ozonna gave followers a glimpse into his relationship with his father when Governor Soludo joined him in a dance challenge promoting his song Big Flex.

The video, which showed both father and son dancing together while wearing matching traditional beads, quickly went viral and earned praise from many Nigerians, revealing a lighter side of the governor rarely seen in public.

Despite his father’s political prominence, Ozonna has repeatedly insisted that his personal views should not be interpreted as those of Governor Soludo.

During the build-up to the 2023 general election, after being drawn into political debates online, he publicly distanced himself from his father’s political activities.

“I would appreciate not being dragged into this. I am not an extension of anybody. I have my own opinions and have always said I think Peter is the best candidate. All this has nothing to do with me,” he stated.

Born on February 11, 1994, in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ozonna is the eldest of Governor Soludo’s six children.

He spent part of his childhood in the United States before relocating to London, where he studied Vocal Performance at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance.

Through music, fashion, entrepreneurship and an unapologetic approach to self-expression, Ozonna Soludo has continued to build a public identity that extends well beyond being recognised solely as the son of a state governor.
