Brazil Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, arrived in Abuja on Tuesday alongside his wife, Maria Alckmin, to kick off the second session of the Nigeria–Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism.
Their delegation was received at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole.
Also on hand to welcome them were the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, among other top officials.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is hosting Alckmin and will participate in several joint events, including the opening ceremony of the Strategic Dialogue, held Tuesday morning at the State House Conference Centre.
According to the Office of the Vice President, the SDM provides a framework for Nigeria and Brazil to strengthen collaboration on mutual priorities.

A joint press conference by both nations’ foreign ministers is slated for Tuesday afternoon, also at the State House, followed by a gala dinner in the evening hosted by Vice President Shettima.
Describing the visit as a milestone for Nigeria’s diplomacy, Senator Hadejia said it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South–South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” Hadejia said.
“Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The high-level three-day summit is set to conclude with the signing of more than 30 Memoranda of Understanding spanning defence, agricultural technology, energy, and cultural exchange programmes.
