A farmer identified as Baba Yakubu has been hacked to death by suspected herders in Mai Kwari village, located in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to family members, the tragic incident occurred on Thursday while the farmer was working on his cassava farm.

A relative, Danjuma Ishaku, explained that the confrontation began when herders allegedly led their cattle into Yakubu’s farmland, causing damage to his crops.

Yakubu reportedly rushed over to confront the herders. After they allegedly ignored his complaints, he used his cutlass to strike one of the cows. The situation quickly escalated, with one of the herders allegedly retaliating by pulling out a cutlass and attacking Yakubu.

One of Yakubu’s sons, who witnessed the incident, managed to escape and alert others. The wounded farmer was rushed to Kwaita Clinic, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The police authorities in Kwali have confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are currently ongoing.

This tragic event has once again raised concerns over the rising tensions and recurring clashes between farmers and herders across Nigeria, particularly in rural communities where land disputes and crop damage often lead to violent outcomes.
