BREAKING: UK to return £4.2m looted by ex-Delta gov, Ibori

The United Kingdom is set to return to Nigeria the sum of £4.2 million stolen assets by a former governor of Delta State, James Ibori.

This followed the Uk government signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to return the loot.

Channels Television reported that the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing signed the MoU at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Justice, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

According to Laing, the money was recovered from friends and family members of the former governor.

She lamented that a good number of Nigerians had formed the habit of siphoning money from the country to the UK, a development, she said had also affected the level of trust between the two countries.

She cautioned that the UK will no longer be used as a destination for looters to siphon proceeds of crimes.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami speaking, said the recovery of the stolen fund was part of the efforts of the current administration to fight corruption.

He said that the money would be used for the construction of the second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano road and Lagos-Ibadan Express road.
