Burger King Expands UK Footprint, 30 New Restaurants Planned Annually

Burger King UK is ramping up its presence, announcing plans to open around 30 new restaurants every year, signalling aggressive growth across the country despite a challenging economic climate marked by weak consumer demand and rising labour costs.

The expansion plan was revealed on December 11, 2025, alongside the company’s latest trading update.

The move follows strong 2025 trading, with UK revenues hitting £408 million and like‑for‑like sales up 4.5 per cent.

Burger King now operates 574 restaurants nationwide and is pressing ahead with both new openings and site remodels to enhance performance.

The strategy forms part of a long-term growth plan that has steadily increased Burger King’s UK footprint, a market that remains critical to its European operations.

Over the past decade, the brand has focused on modernising outlets, enhancing menus, and expanding into suburban and urban locations historically dominated by competitors such as McDonald’s and KFC.

Chief Executive Alasdair Murdoch said the plan reflects confidence in sustained demand for quick-service dining, even as the chain navigates rising wages and other operational costs.

The expansion coincides with Burger King’s recent franchise extension into the Republic of Ireland, broadening its regional presence and opening fresh growth opportunities.

Analysts describe the move as a bold statement of resilience, positioning Burger King to capture market share as consumer spending stabilises.
