A commercial bus driver has been arrested over the alleged deliberate killing of a passenger following a dispute during a trip from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Lagos.
The suspect, Ifeanyi Okwuaja, from Umuegwu in Mpam, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, was arrested after police linked him to a fatal crash along the Ijebu-Ode axis of Ogun State.
Police said Okwuaja, a driver with Agbasi City Mass Transit Nigeria Limited, left Onitsha with passengers earlier in July 2026. During the journey, he allegedly quarreled with a front-seat passenger and threatened him.

Investigators alleged that after passing Ijebu-Ode, the driver intentionally rammed the bus into a stationary truck. The passenger, who was seated in the front, died instantly, while several other occupants sustained injuries.
The driver allegedly fled the scene without reporting the crash and returned to his hometown in Imo State.
He was later tracked down and arrested by Inspector Monday Christova. Police said he was taken to the Ahiazu Mbaise Police Station on July 18, 2026, before being transferred to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, for further investigation and prosecution.
The case has renewed concerns over passenger safety and driver conduct in Nigeria’s commercial transport sector, where authorities have repeatedly warned against reckless driving and violent confrontations on the road.
