The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for the Bwari Area Council election, Julius Adamu, has withdrawn from the race, throwing his support behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Musa.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at a public event in Bwari attended by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a large gathering of political supporters and party leaders. A video of the event, shared by Agbagyisha TV on Facebook, showed Adamu formally relinquishing his candidacy and urging his supporters to back Musa.
Adamu described the decision as the result of “deep consultation” with Wike, calling Musa his “brother” and saying it would “not be nice for two brothers to kill themselves over one business.” He said, “As such, I have relinquished my support to Honourable Joshua. And I want to urge you all to support him to become chairman of Bwari Area Council.”
Wike confirmed the development, saying, “We have agreed that he will stand down for Joshua.”

The February 21, 2026 FCT Area Council elections will see voters in the six councils—Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali—elect six chairmen and 62 councillors. The Bwari contest had attracted significant attention as both the PDP and APC sought control of the council.
Days ago, the Supreme Court affirmed Musa as the valid APC chairmanship candidate after a legal challenge. Wike’s role in the event reflects his high-profile involvement in FCT politics since his appointment as minister in 2023, amid criticisms that he has at times acted against the interests of his party.
