The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a series of disciplinary sanctions on the Senegalese and Moroccan football federations following incidents that marred the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 final.
In a statement released on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, CAF confirmed that its Disciplinary Board found the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), as well as several players and officials, guilty of breaching provisions of the CAF Disciplinary Code relating to fair play, integrity, and sporting conduct.
Senegal suffered the heaviest sanctions. Head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was handed a five-match suspension from official CAF competitions and fined USD 100,000 for unsporting conduct that brought the game into disrepute.
Two Senegalese players, Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr, were each suspended for two CAF matches after being found guilty of misconduct towards match officials.
The FSF was also fined heavily for crowd and team-related offenses. CAF imposed:
USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of Senegalese supporters,
USD 300,000 for unsporting behaviour by players and technical staff,
USD 15,000 after five Senegal players were booked during the final.
The Moroccan camp was not spared. Star defender Achraf Hakimi received a two-match suspension, although one match has been suspended for a year, subject to good behaviour. Midfielder Ismaël Saibari was handed a three-match ban and fined USD 100,000 for unsporting conduct.
CAF also fined the FRMF:

USD 15,000 for the use of laser pointers by home supporters.
CAF further disclosed that it had dismissed a formal protest lodged by the FRMF against Senegal. Morocco had accused the FSF of violating Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations during the final, but the Disciplinary Board ruled that the claims lacked sufficient grounds.
The sanctions bring a decisive close to one of the most controversial finals in recent AFCON history, with CAF reiterating its commitment to upholding discipline, integrity, and respect for match officials across African football.
