As activities marking Global Money Week 2026 continue across the world, the Central Bank of Nigeria has cautioned bank customers against exposing their financial details to anyone.
The apex bank stressed that account holders must keep personal banking information private, warning that passwords, PINs and other confidential details should never be disclosed.
The caution comes at a time when cases of banking fraud and online scams are rising, with criminals targeting unsuspecting customers.
The bank also warned that individuals who claim to be bank workers should not be trusted with sensitive financial information.
In a message shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account, on Monday, the 16th of March, 2026, the bank stated, “Protect your money by protecting your information. As we mark Global Money Week 2026, remember: your PINs, passwords, and banking details should never be shared with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from your bank. Stay alert. Stay safe.”

The regulator noted that fraudsters often pose as bank representatives through phone calls, text messages and emails in order to deceive customers into releasing confidential banking data.
Through the advisory, the bank hopes to cut down financial losses while raising awareness about safer banking habits among Nigerians.
Customers were also encouraged to check their accounts regularly, rely only on official banking channels for transactions, and quickly report any suspicious activity.
Global Money Week is a yearly international campaign that promotes financial literacy, responsible money management and consumer protection. The campaign is being marked in many countries, including Nigeria, with attention on safer banking behaviour.
