The Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, Central Bank of Nigeria, Emem Usoro, has commended the ongoing reforms introduced by the apex bank, stating that its policies helped steer Nigeria’s economy away from potential disaster.
Usoro made this known during her acceptance speech after being conferred with an honorary Doctorate degree in Business Administration (honoris causa) at the combined 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th convocation ceremonies of Akwa Ibom State University, held in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area on Saturday.
She was honoured alongside other distinguished Nigerians, including the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero; Managing Director of Hensek Engineering Limited, Engr. Uwem Okoko; Engr. Oliver Ebong; Pastor Inyang Udo Tobby; and Engr. Elvis Effiong Osung.
Highlighting key policy directions, Usoro noted that the apex bank aligned its monetary policies with the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms, resulting in improved exchange rate stability and broader macroeconomic gains.
“At the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are working hard to build a resilient economy that supports your dreams and integrates Nigeria into a global economy full of opportunities,” she said.
“We have developed systems and implemented policies that brought the country back from economic disaster and are positioning the economy to better serve all segments of society.”
She added that the synergy between monetary and fiscal authorities has boosted economic growth and fostered a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
Addressing graduating students, Usoro described them as critical to Nigeria’s future, stressing that the country’s economic progress depends on the contributions of skilled and innovative young people.

Drawing comparisons with countries such as Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, she noted that nations without vast natural resources have achieved remarkable development by investing in human capital and innovation.
“You are our future, the promise of our country’s great tomorrow. We look forward to your energy, your ideas, and your inventions,” she told the graduands.
Usoro also announced that the CBN would provide financial support to the university to enhance academic and research activities.
A total of 6,779 undergraduate and 746 postgraduate students graduated during the period under review.
She concluded by encouraging students to remain curious, embrace continuous learning, and persevere in the face of challenges, while urging female graduands not to be limited by societal or cultural barriers.
