CDQ: I Borrowed Suits, Quit Banking for Fulfilment

Rapper CDQ has opened up on why he walked away from a banking career to pursue music.

In an interview with the Echo Room, the ‘Nowo Soke’ rapper said the banking job was only to honour his late father’s dream for him, but he didn’t enjoy it.

He revealed he often found himself writing lyrics at work instead of focusing on his duties.

That is when he knew it was time to leave.

According to him, Masterkraft who housed him and even lent him suits to wear to the bank was stunned when he heard about his decision.

“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it,” he recalled.

CDQ said he urged Masterkraft to focus fully on music with him, assuring that something big would happen in six months.

That prediction came true sooner than expected they landed a record deal and moved from the ghetto to Lekki.

His big break came in 2016 with the hit track ‘Indomie’ featuring Masterkraft and Olamide.

A remix with Davido pushed the song and his name even further.
