Channels Tv Cameraman Dies Nine Days After Crash In Bauchi

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council, has announced the death of a cameraman with Channels Television, Kani Ben, nine days after he was involved in a motor accident while on official assignment.

The NUJ State Chairman, Umar Said, disclosed this on Sunday, February 15, while speaking with journalists in Bauchi, expressing deep sorrow over the incident.

Said said Ben sustained injuries in a motor accident while covering the commissioning and handing over of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari.

According to him, the deceased was among journalists assigned to cover the event when the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has commiserated with the family of the late cameraman, describing his death as painful and heartbreaking.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the governor said Ben died in the early hours of Sunday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life.

Mohammed noted that the late cameraman died in active service and remained committed to his professional duty of keeping Nigerians informed.

He commended Ben’s dedication, courage and sense of responsibility, saying they were evident until his last moments.

The governor extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the management and staff of Channels Television, the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the entire media community.

He also prayed for the repose of his soul and urged his family, friends and colleagues to find strength in the difficult time.

“The Government of Bauchi State stands in solidarity with the media community at this difficult time and reassures all of its continued respect and support for journalists who risk their lives daily in the course of their duties,” the governor stated.
