China on Friday, July 17, 2026, rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed claim that Beijing interfered in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, insisting it has never sought to influence American elections.
The response followed Trump’s televised address on Thursday, in which he again challenged the outcome of the 2020 vote and accused China of election meddling.
Speaking in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian dismissed the allegation as false, saying China has never interfered in U.S. elections and has no intention of doing so.

He urged Washington to stop making what he described as baseless accusations and avoid using China as an issue in domestic politics, calling instead for steps that would strengthen bilateral relations.
Asked whether the remarks could affect Chinese President Xi Jinping’s planned visit to the United States in September, Lin said both countries should focus on maintaining stable ties.
The latest exchange comes despite recent diplomatic engagement between the two sides. Trump visited Beijing in mid-May, where he and Xi agreed on a new framework for managing U.S.-China relations.
During the visit, Trump invited Xi to the United States in September, an invitation Beijing later confirmed the Chinese leader had accepted.
