CNPP Raises Alarm Over PFIPC Saga, Demands Tinubu, Top Officials Resign

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, called for the immediate removal of senior government officials over the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying President Bola Tinubu should resign if those responsible are not held accountable.

In a statement issued in Kaduna by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, James Ezema, the coalition described the controversy as a major governance failure, citing the reported inclusion of the PFIPC in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite the Presidency’s position that the council is not a recognized government agency.

The CNPP said the development exposed serious lapses in Nigeria’s budgetary and institutional processes, arguing that an agency contained in a law signed by the President cannot simply be declared non-existent through a public statement.

According to the coalition, the PFIPC was reportedly allocated more than ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 federal budget for personnel, operations and a proposed World Investment Summit.

It also referenced allegations that Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew operated as the council’s Director-General, allegedly worked from the Federal Secretariat, engaged public institutions and foreign diplomats, and reportedly maintained bank accounts in the agency’s name.

The coalition said the government should have formally scrapped the council, launched a full investigation and sought an amendment to the 2026 Appropriation Act instead of disowning the agency.

The CNPP demanded the dismissal or resignation of officials it believes should answer for the controversy, including the Chief of Staff to the President, relevant officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Budget Office, members of the Federal Executive Council, ministers and heads of agencies linked to the matter, as well as principal officers and committee chairmen of the National Assembly involved in the 2026 budget process.

It warned that if President Tinubu fails to sanction those responsible and ensure a transparent accountability process, he should take responsibility for the alleged governance failure and resign.
