PFIPC Row: NDC Demands Gbajabiamila’s Suspension

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, pending an independent investigation into allegations surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The opposition party said the move would ensure a credible probe into claims linking Gbajabiamila to an alleged N600 million deal involving Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to have been appointed Director-General of the disputed agency. The Presidency has denied the allegations.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC called for an independent panel to investigate the alleged establishment of the PFIPC, its reported funding, staffing, bank accounts and financial transactions.

The party questioned how an agency the Presidency insists does not exist allegedly operated accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria and secured approval for 314 staff positions.

It also cited Adeyemi’s claim that he agreed to pay N600 million for the appointment, alleging that N400 million was paid through intermediaries while an outstanding N200 million remained unpaid.

The NDC further referenced allegations that N27,395,510,136, said to represent about 48 per cent of the agency’s reported take-off allocation, was demanded as part of the arrangement.

The party also highlighted the death of Babatunde Tanimola, identified as an alleged intermediary, who reportedly died in a hotel fire in Utako, Abuja, on October 22, 2025, and Adeyemi’s claim that he survived multiple assassination attempts, including an alleged attack along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on September 7, 2025.

The NDC urged authorities to investigate both incidents, provide witness protection for Adeyemi and subject all relevant documents to forensic examination.

It also called on the EFCC, ICPC, Nigeria Police Force, Central Bank of Nigeria, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to carry out a comprehensive investigation.

The party maintained that suspending the Chief of Staff would help guarantee an impartial investigation and strengthen public confidence in its outcome.
