Professor Mahmood Yakubu on Thursday, July 2, 2026, officially assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar after presenting his Letters of Credence to the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The ceremony, held at the Amiri Diwan in Doha, featured full diplomatic honours, including a Guard of Honour.
During a private audience, the Amir reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Nigeria and Qatar, recalled previous high-level engagements and pledged continued efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Yakubu conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Tinubu and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Qatar in trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
He also conveyed Nigeria’s condolences over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City, expressing solidarity with the Qatari government and people.
The presentation of the Letters of Credence on Thursday, formally marked the commencement of Yakubu’s diplomatic assignment, with both countries signaling their resolve to strengthen cooperation across strategic sectors.
