A major traffic jam brought movement to a halt on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, leaving motorists stuck for hours as gridlock spread across both the inbound and outbound lanes.
The standstill extended from Berger down to Ojota for those heading toward Maryland, trapping motorists traveling into Lagos.
Speaking to First Daily correspondent a traffic police officer said that the heavy congestion is traced to a crash at the Ikosi 7UP area, where two vehicles collided.
The accident, however, caused a major obstruction, worsening an already tense traffic situation.
Lamenting to our correspondent, a passenger identified as Aliu Adekunle, said he has been held in traffic for two hours from Berger to the Secretariat axis of the expressway.
Adekunle stated, “The traffic was something else. The journey that was supposed to last less than 15 minutes lasted over two hours. I was at a point for two hours.”
Also speaking, a medical doctor who identified himself only as Mike said, “I met the traffic at Otedola Bridge. On getting to Magodo, I realised there was an accident.

“This has caused harm to some of my patients, especially one who was placed on an emergency and I am the only doctor to attend the sick patient,” he said.
This is, however, not the first time passengers have been held in traffic for long hours along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In November, many passengers were trapped in a traffic gridlock along the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.
The traffic began shortly after the Sagamu Interchange and stretched beyond the old Ogere tollgate area, leaving many stranded on both sides of the highway.
