Controversy Trails Comedian Sanku’s Death in Loaned Lexus SUV

Fresh details have emerged over the circumstances surrounding the death of fast-rising comedian Adetola Samad, popularly known as Sanku, who died on September 2, 2025, in a fatal accident along Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State.

Content creator Folorunsho Olayinka, popularly called Finest, who acted as guarantor in the late comedian’s car purchase, disclosed that Sanku died while driving a loaned 2012 Lexus RX 350 SUV. According to him, the vehicle, acquired for ₦25.4 million from JJ Motors Empire and Services Limited in Ilorin, Kwara State, was meant to be returned to the dealer for a cheaper replacement.

Finest, speaking during a TikTok livestream on Monday, said the late comedian had initially paid ₦7 million upfront and later made instalments amounting to ₦12.28 million, leaving a balance of about ₦13 million. He denied speculation that he had a hand in Sanku’s death, stressing that he merely stood as guarantor because of his relationship with the dealer.

However, a close associate of the deceased, who requested anonymity, offered a conflicting account. He claimed Sanku was under pressure to return the Lexus for a Nigerian-used Toyota Venza, but the comedian resisted after his uncle, a police officer, advised him against it, fearing foul play.

Evidence of the dispute surfaced in a WhatsApp voice recording obtained by our correspondent, in which Sanku complained of repeated calls demanding the car’s return.

Sanku had proudly shared photos of the SUV on his TikTok page on June 6, 2025, captioned: “Alhamdulilah for life, congratulations Adetola,” while tagging Finest in the post. His sudden death has since sparked a heated debate within entertainment circles and among fans, as questions linger over the car deal and its connection to his final days.

Actor Yemi Elesho confirmed Sanku’s passing on social media, describing the loss as a huge blow to Nigeria’s comedy industry.
