The Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, bail in a corruption case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), but ordered that he remain in custody pending fulfilment of the bail conditions.
Delivering ruling on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa said he had reviewed arguments from both the prosecution and defence before reaching his decision, following an adjournment earlier fixed for April 1.
The court granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of ₦200 million with two sureties in like sum, describing the terms as “strict and extensive.”
Justice Aikawa ruled that the former governor must remain in ICPC custody until all bail requirements are fully satisfied.

According to the court, the sureties are required to deposit their international passports with the registry as part of the conditions.
The judge further directed that one surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the second must be a recognised traditional ruler.
El-Rufai was also barred from making public comments relating to the ongoing trial and must attend all court sessions throughout the proceedings.
His counsel, Ubong Akpan, declined to comment when approached by journalists after the ruling.
However, El-Rufai’s son, Bello El-Rufai, confirmed that the former governor had been granted bail.
