A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, postponed hearing in the fundamental rights suit filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other respondents, fixing March 25, 2026, for further proceedings.
The case came up before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who granted the adjournment to enable parties in the matter to complete and regularise their filings before the court proceeds with the hearing.
El-Rufai is demanding ₦1 billion in damages over what he described as a violation of his fundamental rights following a search carried out at his residence in Abuja by law enforcement officials.
In the suit, the former governor listed the ICPC, the Chief Magistrate of the Federal Capital Territory Magistrate’s Court, the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation as respondents.

Through his legal representatives, El-Rufai is contesting the legality of the search warrant issued by a magistrate court, which authorised the operation at his residence.
He argued that the warrant was improperly issued and that the search infringed on his constitutional rights, including his rights to privacy, personal liberty, dignity and fair hearing.
He is also asking the court to bar the respondents from making use of any materials allegedly recovered during the search for the purpose of investigation or prosecution.
The respondents, however, insist that the search was conducted lawfully and based on a valid warrant issued by a competent court.
The matter is expected to proceed when the court reconvenes on March 25.
