Court Gives PDP Green Light to Hold Convention in Ibadan

The Oyo State High Court has given the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) permission to hold its national convention on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Justice A. L. Akintola, who delivered the ruling, issued an interim order allowing the opposition party to proceed with its plans without any interference.

The judge also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to attend and monitor the exercise.

The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by Folahan Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, the Chairman of the Convention Organising Committee, Governor Umaru Fintiri, and the INEC.

Adelabi had asked the court to stop any move by the defendants to tamper with the timetable, guidelines, or schedule of the planned convention.

In his decision, Justice Akintola said the claimant presented a strong enough case that required immediate court intervention.

“The motion ex-parte has merit and succeeds as prayed,” the judge ruled, granting temporary reliefs to protect the party’s schedule and ensure that the convention proceeds as planned.

The court adjourned further hearing on the substantive motion for an interlocutory injunction to November 10, 2025.

The interim order, issued on November 3, 2025, was sealed by the Oyo State High Court and endorsed by its Principal Registrar, S. O. Hammed.
