Court Grants Angela Okorie ₦5m Bail Over Cyberstalking

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been granted ₦5 million bail with one surety of equal value in a cyberstalking and criminal defamation case.

The ruling was delivered on Friday, January 30, 2026, by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The prosecution had opposed bail, citing concerns that Okorie might evade trial.

The court, however, found no evidence suggesting she would flee and allowed her release in the interest of justice.

The court imposed strict conditions for bail. The surety must be a Level 13 civil servant and submit an appointment letter, latest promotion letter, and affidavit of means.

Okorie and the surety are also required to provide two passport photographs, while the court registrar will verify the surety’s residence.

The trial has been adjourned to Monday, March 23, 2026, and Okorie will remain at the Suleja Correctional Centre until her bail requirements are met.

Okorie faces a seven-count charge of cyberstalking and criminal defamation, alleged to have been committed between 2024 and 2025 under the Cybercrime Act. She has pleaded not guilty.

The case follows allegations that Okorie and an associate used social media platforms to publish harmful and defamatory content directed at fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie, including insulting and damaging claims.
