Court Jails Builderstech MD 48 Years For N500m Investment Scam In Makurdi

The Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi has sentenced the Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, Agene Johnson Godwin, to 48 years imprisonment without an option of fine for his role in a large-scale investment scam.

Justice M.S. Abubakar handed down the sentence after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This was contained in a statement by the anti-graft agency shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

According to the prosecution, Godwin defrauded over 5,000 unsuspecting victims of more than ₦500 million through fraudulent investment schemes operated under Builderstech Solution Ltd.

The offences, the EFCC said, involved obtaining money by false pretence and other related financial crimes, in violation of relevant provisions of Nigerian law.

In his judgment, Justice Abubakar emphasised the gravity of the offences and their devastating impact on thousands of victims, many of whom lost their life savings to the scheme.

The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to combating financial crimes and warned members of the public to be cautious of investment opportunities promising unusually high returns.
