A London court on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 sentenced grime artist Ghetts to 12 years in prison after he admitted causing the death of a university student in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on October 18, 2025 in northeast London.
The ruling was delivered at the Old Bailey, where evidence showed that the defendant drove at excessive speed and above the legal alcohol limit before striking a 20-year-old Nepalese student, Yubin Tamang.
CCTV footage reviewed during the trial depicted dangerous driving, including the running of multiple red lights prior to the collision.

Tamang suffered catastrophic injuries and died in hospital on October 20, 2025.
Prosecutors stated that the driver failed to stop or seek assistance after the impact and continued driving away from the scene, conduct the judge described as reckless in determining the custodial sentence and a 17-year driving disqualification.
Ghetts, whose legal name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, expressed remorse and apologized to the victim’s family during the proceedings.
The court acknowledged letters of support highlighting his community work and artistic career, including an acting role in the television series Supacell, but ruled that the severity of the offense required substantial punishment.
