Crisis Hits State APC: Chairman Expelled as Special Leader Faces Suspension

The State Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken drastic disciplinary actions following a high-stakes meeting at the party secretariat on Monday, the 22nd of December, 2025.

The committee announced the expulsion of the embattled State Chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and the confirmation of the suspension of State Special Leader, Dr. Juliet Ebuo Diwa.

The move to remove Eba stems from allegations that he breached the party’s governing rules. Specifically, the party invoked Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution (as amended March 26, 2022), which penalizes members who take the party to court before seeking internal resolution.

The Publicity Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, Emmanuel Edem Inyang, clarified the legal basis for the decision: “the constitutional provision stipulates that any member who institutes legal action against the party or any of its officers on matters relating to party affairs, without first exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms, automatically stands expelled upon filing such action.”

The motion for expulsion was proposed by Dr. Abubakar Efoli (Vice Chairman, Central Senatorial District) and supported by Dr. Joseph Idagu Ogar (Youth Leader, North). Following the adoption of the motion, the committee clarified its stance: “The committee therefore affirmed the expulsion of Mr Alphonsus Ogar Eba in line with the provisions of the APC constitution,” the statement said, noting that no appeal would be entertained unless the court action is withdrawn.

In a separate development, the committee addressed the status of the State Special Leader, Dr. Juliet Diwa. Her suspension originated from a petition filed by Kelvin Njong, the APC Chairman in Boki LGA, regarding an incident involving James Abang, a ward chairman.

The committee confirmed that: The Allegation: Diwa reportedly assaulted the ward chairman. Her suspension remains active.

The statement noted that “Diwa’s suspension would remain in force pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee investigation.”
