The Cross River State Government has confirmed the full implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage, in line with its agreement with organised labour.
The Head of Service, Dr. Innocent Eteng, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Calabar during the unveiling of activities marking the ongoing Civil/Public Service Day celebration. He stated that Governor Bassey Otu’s administration had “graciously” approved and implemented the wage adjustment as stipulated in the labour agreement.
“His Excellency has graciously approved the N70,000 minimum wage, which we have implemented as written in the agreement,” Eteng said. “Those saying the governor has not implemented the minimum wage are ignorant and naive. As the Head of Service, I speak authoritatively — this information is bankable.”
Eteng emphasised that the new wage structure was applied “across the state, across all levels” and commended Governor Otu for fulfilling the commitment.

Outlining the programme for the Civil/Public Service Day, the Head of Service said the celebrations include a city walk by civil servants, a public lecture, an awards ceremony for outstanding workers at the UJ Esuene Stadium, a keynote address by the Secretary to the State Government, and a lecture by Rev. Fr. Bob Etta.
The implementation of the revised minimum wage is expected to boost morale among civil and public servants in Cross River State, who have long awaited wage adjustments in line with national standards.
