CUPP Slams Political Defectors for Lacking Integrity and Disregarding Voters

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has voiced strong disapproval of politicians who abandon their original platforms to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). During a Monday, 22nd of December, 2025, appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, CUPP Secretary-General Peter Ameh characterized these cross-carpeting officials as lacking moral fortitude and accountability to those who voted them into office.

Ameh argued that switching to a party that one recently campaigned against is a betrayal of the democratic mandate. He suggested that such moves call into question the legitimacy of the defectors‘ original victories and their commitment to their own manifestos.

During the interview, Ameh stated: “Those defecting to the APC don’t have shame and respect for the electorate. You contested against this party you are defecting to on the day of the election. Except if you feel you rigged your election because the electorate went to the polls, saw APC, PDP and Labour Party on the ballot and decided to ignore the APC and voted for you. You were canvassing on the manifesto of your party and now you are moving to another party. This is about morality.”

Looking toward the future, the CUPP Secretary-General expressed hope that the Nigerian electorate would eventually reclaim their power. He noted that while the 2023 elections showed a desire for change, the lack of defensive structures hampered that momentum. He urged citizens to remain persistent in their pursuit of a more principled governance system.

Ameh concluded: “We hope that one day the people will wake up and determine their own future. They did it in 2023 but there were no structures to defend it. So they need to go to the next level and say we do it again, we are not giving up because this country deserves better.”
