Customs Intercepts 13 Containers Of Expired Drugs At Apapa

The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has uncovered 13 containers loaded with expired medicines, food products and security gadgets with an estimated value of N6.38 billion at Apapa Port.

The development was announced on Tuesday the 10th of March, 2026, by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, during a media briefing held at APM Terminals in Apapa, Lagos.

Adeniyi explained that the discovery followed stronger intelligence operations by customs officers. He said the command relied on scanning equipment and careful inspection of cargo suspected to contain illegal goods.

“The items seized include expired pharmaceutical products such as Mixagrip Cold Caplets, Ladinax tablets, chloroquine injections and diclofenac tablets,” Adeniyi said.

He revealed that officers also uncovered large quantities of Hyegra 200 and Sildenafil Citrate, along with 800 cartons of codeine that had been hidden inside toilet cisterns and sanitary fittings.

“Other intercepted items include cartons of Artesunate injections and restricted security equipment such as bulletproof vests, helmets, walkie-talkies and tactical torches,” he said.

The customs chief also noted that several containers carried expired food items, including muffin cookie biscuits and 36,000 cans of Primo energy drinks.

He added that the operation further exposed shipments of expired St. Kelvin and De Truth tomato paste discovered during the checks.
